NYIG’s Corrections & Treatment Facilities Committee is responsible for bringing English and Spanish speaking A.A. meetings and literature into treatment centers and prisons throughout the greater New York City Area. For more information about this service, check out our CTFC Frequently Asked Questions Flyer.
To get involved in this service or find out how your home group can adopt an institutional meeting, please attend a CTFC meeting in your Borough or Westchester. CTFC meetings are held monthly in each borough. Please review the CTFC Monthly Local Meetings Schedule Flyer or visit the Upcoming Events Page on www.nyintergroup.org for CTFC meeting dates in 2019!
Besides speaking or taking a meeting into an institution, literature packing is an essential part of the CTFC’s work! Every month a group of AA members get together at the NYIG office to assemble the literature packets that are distributed into facilities, and volunteers are always needed. The only requirement to help is one day sober so it’s a great service opportunity for everyone. Please visit the Upcoming Events Page on www.nyintergroup.org for packing dates in 2019!
The literature the CTFC brings to institutions are paid for from the CTFC’s Literature Fund. This fund is kept replenished by the generous contributions by A.A. members and groups. Funds sent to NYIG and specifically designated with the words “CTFC Literature Fund” in the memo of instrument are segregated for it. In addition, many groups pass The Pink Can, to raise money for the fund. Finally the CTFC’s Literature Fund Dinner Dance is an annual summer dinner-dance the net proceeds of which go entirely to support the fund.
We also have a Bridging the Gap and Prison Pre-Release programs. Through these programs, you can sign up to meet an alcoholic when they are released from treatment or a former inmate within 48 hours of release and take them to a meeting. Most alcoholics relapse within 24-48 hours of their discharge/release. These programs can be vital to people’s recovery. To learn more, please email firstname.lastname@example.org, call (201) 503-4008, or attend our monthly meeting the second Wednesday of the month at 6:30pm at NY Intergroup.
