New York Inter-Group Webchat

Image of homepage with webchat enabled

In accordance with our mission to help the alcoholic who still suffers, we’ve added another way to access assistance. We’ve integrated webchat into the NYIG. Users can reach volunteers to answer questions, get meetings times, or find other information. Webchat appears on all NYIG web pages while operators are available. You may move among pages on the website and remain connected. At the end of chat, we ask that you take a moment and complete the brief survey that is linked. Your feedback is important to us.

“I am responsible. When anyone, anywhere, reaches out for help, I want the hand of AA always to be there. And for that I am responsible.” – Larry K.

Are chats anonymous?

In the spirit of AA’s Twelfth Tradition, chats are anonymous. All data transmitted is handled per the NY Inter-Group Privacy Policy.

Are chats retained?

Chats are periodically cleared to ensure efficiency and confidentiality.

I don’t see anywhere to chat, what’s wrong?

The chat feature will only appear on the website when there are volunteers available to staff it. We encourage anyone with 1 year of continuous sobriety who would like volunteer to contact. Visit: Get Involved! If you require immediate assistance and chat is not available, call (212) 647-1680. Volunteers are available from 9am – 2am.

I’m having problems with the chat, how do I get help?

Send an email to let us know what the issue is. Then give us a call at (212) 647-1680 for immediate attention and for the information you were seeking. Please note: Telephone volunteers may not be able to address the webchat issue.

I would like to volunteer as a Webchat operator!

Amazing! Please email and we’ll be in touch.

Do I have to volunteer to answer phones to be a Webchat operator?

No! Phone volunteer service is helpful, but we recognize that those who are comfortable answering phones are not necessarily those who will be comfortable interacting via text and vice versa.

How can I learn more?

Email questions to and we’ll let you know. We appreciate your input on this new feature!
